Feb 6, 2012

Block 1: write 5 questions and 5 answers to the assay about Sukot.
Block 2: We learned about the Beduim- Friday - Test
Block 6: We made a special video for th esong KoL Israel.

This month, we were focusing on Tu BiShvat and how we honored and appreciated trees, and the importance of planting trees, not just in Israel, but in the USA and in the rest of the world.

This week’s phrase is related to Tu BiShvat and peace.  We learned about the Neviim / Prophets / נביאים and their role in Jewish Life in Biblical times.  Our students learned a popular verse, taken from the Book of Micah, Chapter 4, Verse 4:

“But every man shall sit under his grapevine or fig tree with no one to disturb him.”

"וישבו, איש תחת גפנו ותחת תאנתו- ואין מחריד"

The prophet Micah lectured the people of Israel about their sin because they were unkind to each other.  He said that in the future, each person would have time to sit under a fig tree or grapevine, meaning that days of peace and joy were coming, and there would be no more fear.  The kids learned that in the time of Biblical agriculture, people had to travel to cultivate these trees and vines.  They were unable to take care of their agriculture during times of unrest, because they had to stay closer to home.

Today, by metaphorically sitting under these trees and vines, we are bringing ourselves to a place and a state of peace.

In addition, the 7th graders made a Wordle emphasizing the optimistic words that we want to remember, and to keep with us, as we go together into a peaceful future.  You should check them out in the 2nd floor landing outside of the elevator bank!
